DEAR EDITOR,
I read with alarm, the reactions of the citizens of Guyana to some recent political appointments. Kudos to those members of the new administration that are clearly attempting to take corrective actions; however this new government really needs to realize that; it’s a new world out there. Citizens all over the world are standing up, becoming activists and demanding better from their government.
Look at what is happening with demonstrations in Belarus and Israel, or even Mali. Who would have thought?
The days of the ’80’s and 90’s are over in Guyana, so should the days of brazen self interest. The decisions made on some key appointments are counterproductive to the people of Guyana. We can’t go backward.
Are we to take a slap from Exxon, and the other foreign entities with the right hand, and a slap from this government with the left hand with some of these appointments; and be ok with that?
Guyana has just too many battles to fight, and with the consequences of COVID-19 lingering over our heads for a long time, we would hope that the “Elites” and ” Political Godfathers”, not take the people’s goodwill for granted.
Yours Truly,
Chi Kansi
