The community of Buxton ran away with the first Emancipation 5k inter-village road relay that sped off on Sunday last in the village of Mahaica on the East Coast of Demerara.
A total of five villages competed; namely, Plaisance, Vryheid’s Lust, Beterverwagting and the champions Buxton, while Golden Grove and Victoria did not start the race.
The race was run in Mahaica around the routes of the ‘old’ and new roads.
The victorious Buxton team consisted of Jonathan Seedath, Trevon Prince, Aaliyah Headley, Adei Primo and Sean Booker to finish in a superior time of 15 minutes 41 seconds.
Team Plaisance (Emmanuel Sancho, Meckiel Samcj, Akeem Henry, Akeia DeFlorimonte and Neshawn Burnette) were second in 17m 50s. In third, Mahaica (Nicholas Daw, Samuel Henry, Latovia Moore, Timothy France and Shem McKenzie) clocked a combined time of 19m 29s.
Vryheid’s Lust were fourth in 20m 07s, while B.V were last in a time of 20m 50s.
