Dear Editor.
We, the former students of Country High School (renamed Republic Cooperative High School) of Buxton Village, East Coast Demerara have had enough of Freddie Kissoon and his continued abusive, disrespectful and untruthful rhetoric that he boldly puts in his columns about Eusi Kwayana. Mr. Kissoon, from what is expressed in your writings about Mr. Kwayana, your insensitive ignorance of the virtues and moral qualities of this well-liked Buxton Sage and role model has to end. You probably do not realize that your writings, belittling Mr. Eusi Kwayana and attempting to strip him of his dignity, will eventually have an impressionable effect on your readers.
Be it known to you, Mr. Kissoon, that people who will verbally and insensitively attack other persons are those who possess low self-esteem. We want to simply point out that some people have their own map of the world in their thoughts about others.
It is very obvious from some written comments of Mr. Kissoon’s readers that they are in agreement with his hateful and undignified scripts about Mr. Kwayana. On reviewing many of Freddie Kissoon’s narratives about Mr. Kwayana, we clearly note that this man uses false analysis and nasty terminologies, including attacks on Mr. Kwayana’s age, to paint an evil picture of our former high school founder and principal. Mr. Kissoon’s focus is seemingly stuck on Mr. Kwayana’s political activities of the 1960s, but he intentionally fails to mention this hero’s historical and valued contributions to Guyana, dating as far back as the 1940s.
Mr. Kissoon uses a fancy word, “atavism” in some of his attacks on Mr. Kwayana. The online dictionary definition of “atavism” gives it as “a tendency to revert to something ancient or ancestral”. Mr. Kissoon, by this logic, should also be looking at Mr. Kwayana’s contributions to Guyana from the 1940s and 1950s and not deliberately restrict himself to the 1960s, for his convenience.
What is your goal, Mr. Kissoon? Are you tirelessly trying to strip Mr. Eusi Kwayana of his dignity and humanitarian and humble contributions to Guyana? You are certainly on the wrong road for admiration from people who promote and celebrate the good and virtues that they find in their fellow men and women.
Further, Mr. Kissoon, we do realize your constant pursuit of insults and personal attacks, demonstrating your tremendous lack of knowledge of the true attributes of this gentleman, Mr. Eusi Kwayana, who we all call the SAGE of Buxton. As ‘Former students of Mr. Eusi Kwayana’, our names are too many to be listed, but we are open to supplying same if there is any doubt about the source and/or intent of this letter.
Finally, Mr. Kissoon, we are reminding you that we have had enough of your abuse of Mr. Eusi Kwayana. We now state here a famous quote from the man himself, “this confounded nonsense must stop”.
Yours truly,
Former Students of Eusi Kwayana
