DEAR EDITOR,
Democracy has won, there is a moving away from the old-guard and Guyana is stronger. In 1992, democracy was restored as the world moved on from the old dictatorships. Since then, on numerous times democracy has been tested in Guyana, but it has prevailed again in 2020. I congratulate the new PPP/Civic Government and welcome their efforts to: restore democratic values and principles, and pursue constitutional reforms in order for Guyana to win. Even throughout the political landscape, where old dictatorial traits of the past and archaic socialistic values still exist in our leaders today need to give way to democratic and transparent norms. We have also seen a conscious effort to move away from the old guard for younger people to serve in the new Cabinet, which is most welcome. Our public service, national institutions and other parastatal corporations’ efforts need to follow suit and allow younger people to serve in leadership.
A Guyanese
