The popular Jefford Track and Field Classic Meet have been postponed to next year the organiser has disclosed in a release to the media.
Edison Jefford, Founder of the event in his missive stated, “Thank you for your support in what would have been the eleventh edition of the Jefford Track and Field Classic on Sunday August 9, 2020 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden.
However, because of the Covid-19 Pandemic that has forced social distancing rules and the restrictive curfew that is in place, we have decided to postpone the event until Sunday August 8, 2021 in Linden.
We anticipate that you will continue to support this event that is now a national tradition in the mining community. This event has hosted several of the Caribbean’s most popular athletes in Guyana since 2010. The media has played a prominent role in the development of this event in the Linden community and has added immense value to the activities. Without your support, our success would not have been possible.”
Jefford went onto thank all stakeholders for their involvement in the success of the event. “We therefore take this opportunity to extend our profound gratitude to you and all our stakeholders for your contribution to the success of Guyana’s biggest athletics championships. In addition, we would like to thank the following partners for their support: ExxonMobil, Ansa McAl Trading Limited, National Sports Commission, Lets Bet Sports, DeSinco Trading, Andrew’s Supermarket, MVP Sports, Antarctic Maintenance and Repairs, R&D Engineering Inc., Fire Side Grill and Chill, Jai Signs and Designs, Grill Kings and Gordon Gilhuys.”
