With Guyana set to make its second successive trip to the pinnacle of men’s competition in Concacaf, the Concacaf Gold Cup in July 2021, Head Coach of the Guyana Football Federation SMNT, Márcio Máximo is expressing gratitude to his support staff for their tremendous work in the lead up.
Guyana is one of 12 nations that would be contesting the Concacaf Gold Cup preliminary round the week before the 2021 Gold Cup round of 16 kicks off.
The 12 preliminary round qualifiers are Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cuba, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Montserrat, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.
These nations would have all competed and done well in the Concacaf Nations League to earn their respective berths to next year’s flagship competition.
The chief tactician of the Guyana team has noted that their performances in the Nations League would have been as a result of their collective and open approach as a team, noting that their motto is, ‘One Team One Dream’.
“I would like to give a special tribute and say thanks to my staff because they are very, very special. Day in and day out they have shown tremendous dedication in being there to set up for the players to ensure they are comfortable during and after practice.
They {staff} have to be disciplined also and it is that level of discipline and commitment that is passed on to the players and we are able to make ourselves and the nation of Guyana proud.”
Some of the staff members include Manager – Rawle Adams, Coach – Wilson Toledo, Assistant Coach – Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard, Development Coach – Levi Braithwaite, Physio Denzel Hernandez, Equipment Manager – Trevor Burnett, Goalkeeper Coach – Ian De Vera.
