A horrific accident yesterday along the East Coast public road has killed one and left another critically injured .
The fatal accident took place just after 17:00hrs at Montrose, East Coast Demerara (ECD) after a driver lost control of his white Toyota Fielder.
The severely injured driver has since been identified as Eric Sukhrahane, 41, of Crown Dam, and the dead passenger as Trevor Mangal, 40, of Industry.According to eyewitnesses, the driver was allegedly racing with another car when he lost control and slammed into a parked minibus belonging to a cleaning company. The impact caused the bus to damage other parked vehicle.
The while Fielder spun and toppled several times before coming to a halt.
After the wreckage, nearby residents rushed out to offer assistance and found Mangal lying unresponsive on the road. The driver, however, remained trapped in the car.
Police were called and arrived shortly after. Mangal was picked up and placed in the police car while the residents helped free Sukrahane from the car. He was still breathing.
They were both rushed to the Georgetown Public hospital Corporation (GPHC) where doctors pronounced Mangal dead. The driver was admitted.
The car that was said to be racing with the Fielder was nowhere to be seen.
Family members of the dead man told Kaieteur News that prior to his demise, his last conversation with his mother who is overseas. He told her he would call when he reached home.
