South Africa could tour the West Indies for a bilateral series for the first time since they won the Sir Vivian Richards Trophy 2-0 in the Three-Test series in 2010.
These revelations were broken by Veteran Cricket Commentator Guyanese born Reds Perriera on the Voice of Barbados (VOB) on Tuesday.
The 81-year-old Reds, who live in St Lucia, stated on Andrew Mason’s Tuesday night’s Radio programme in Barbados, the CWI CEO confirmed that preliminary discussions were being held but no date or itinerary has been confirmed as yet.
The series could take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados where the South Africans could fly from London to the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados.
The tour is tentatively set to commence about 10 days after the CPL (which is set for Trinidad behind closed doors), concludes on September 10.
If approved this series could be the fifth Caribbean tour since 1992 when South Africa reclaimed Test status when their ban due to the apartheid system was lifted and lost their first match after re-admission in the One-Test series in Barbados.
The West Indies Board and their South African counterparts will have to discuss a number of issues before approval for the series is given.
CWI will have to discuss all Health related protocols due the Covid-19 pandemic with the Barbados Government to see what can be arranged with regards to testing of teams, if spectators will be allowed in the venue and other Covid-19 issues.
The last time West Indies played South Africa in a Test series the hosts defeated West Indies 2-nil in a Three-Test series in 2015. (Sean Devers)
