Thirty-two-year-old Kevin France of East Ruimveldt, Housing Scheme, Georgetown, was charged for attempting to kill a man over a bar stool. The charge was read to the accused via zoom by Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
France was not required to plea to the indictable charge which stated that on February 28, 2020 at Lamaha and De Abreu Streets, Newtown, Georgetown, he attempted to murder Neil Dutchin. Chief Magistrate McLennan granted the accused bail in the sum of $200,000.
According to the facts of the charge, on the day in question, Dutchin and his friends were at Blue Martini Nightclub when Dutchin had a misunderstanding with France over the bar stool and an argument ensued. The accused left and subsequently returned in the company of his two accomplices, one being armed with a handgun.
Dutchin was then confronted by France and his accomplices and it escalated into a fight which resulted in Dutchin being shot twice – once to the right side abdomen and once to his upper left thigh.
France and his accomplices then relieved Dutchin of a sum of cash, cell phone and a knife before making good their escape.
Dutchin was then picked up in a bloodied state and rushed to the hospital where he was admitted in a critical condition. The matter was reported and an investigation was launched.
In August 2015, France had a murder charge against him dismissed due to insufficient evidence. The charge stated that on April 24, 2014 at Campbellville, Georgetown, France murdered Bharrat Ramcharran during the course of a robbery.
