A cell phone store located at Mon Repos East Coast Demerara (ECD) was looted on Friday last by a pair of armed bandits.
The Celltronicx Guyana Cell Phone Sales and Repair Centre was robbed at around 14:15Hrs.
This publication was told that two men pulled up on a Honda XR and entered the cellphone store posing as customers.
One of the men greeted a female employee and handed her a mobile phone that needed repairs. The female employee examined the phone for 10 minutes and then handed it back to the man.
However, while explaining the details of the repairs needed for the phone, the ‘customer’ jumped over the counter and pulled out a hand gun from his waist.
His accomplice also joined and they both held the female employee at gun point shoving her to the back of the store where a cell phone technician was completing his work.
One of the men then ordered both employees to kneel on the ground behind a cubicle while the other stood watch.
Both men then proceeded to loot the store.
In security cameras videos seen by this publication, the men opened the show cases grabbing handsets and packing them into a red haversack.
The bandits also emptied a draw which contained some $300,000 in cash before making their escape.
The owner of the cell phone store told reporters that so far it is discovered that a total of 25 cellular phones were stolen.
He estimates his losses to be more than $2M.
