Dear Editor
I was examining the idea that masks have to be changed every hour during the recount and would like to pose a few questions for clarification. For example, would persons just take off their masks within the confines of the building and replace them with new ones? And if this is so would it not expose them to possible infection? Who would monitor this? Would they ring a bell, time to change? This is not safe so maybe every hour the bell rings, people go out into the yard, space themselves out and change their masks.
This would take at least 15 minutes so 8 times would be two hours. But observers would not want to leave the ballots unattended, so what’s the solution? And whatever modus operandi, how would it be monitored to ensure the rules are complied with?
Maybe we would have to summon a special meeting of the commission to determine how we would ensure this rule is adhered to and how it would be monitored.
What I do know this is not fair to the health workers who have to make do with inadequate masks while if what I consider to be a ridiculous rule is enforced.
Yours truly
Rajendra Bisessar
