Reigning rookie bikes’ champion in the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) championship; Dowayne Caesar, during an exclusive interview with Kaieteur Sport, has expressed his great yearning to return to the South Dakota race track at Timehri to continue doing what he love; racing and winning.
The C&F Meat Center, Windjammer Hotel and Mannol oil sponsored two-wheel daredevil mentioned that it is real tough living an indoor life while, “Some people are still going outside unnecessarily and not cooperating with authorities in the fight against this disease but I have always said that the only cure for stupidity is death.”
The champion iterated that the coronavirus pandemic has no positives and the sport will be affected in various ways, “In racing, the body runs on muscle memory and with the amount of downtime so far and with what is expected, we will not be getting to practice anytime soon so I think it will almost like starting over at the track.”
Caesar added that, “Delayed shipment of supplies for upgrades and repairs to our machines is another issue. This period calls for absolute discipline for us to pull through, it’s really hard but we have to try our best because no one is perfect.”
The racer shared that he expects this November race meet to be the biggest meet we have seen in years if the region overcomes the disease by then. Looking further into the future, the rookie posited that he would love to move up the A class but right now the, “Economics of the sport is not is in my favour but I’m not ruling myself out.”
Caesar highlighted that motor racing is recreational for him and taking to the track is helps combats street racing which has taken the lives of many, “Living on the edge is not something sustainable, your luck is bound to run out and I’m strongly against it.”
The last race meet held by the GMR&SC was the National Race of Champions (NROC) round one in February last where Caesar picked up one win and a second place finish. However, following the pandemic, the July race meet cancellation is expected to be confirmed by the club shortly.
