The mother of an 11-year-old girl is desperately seeking answers from the Public Health Ministry over what she deems an irresponsible mix up of her daughter’s Coronavirus test results.
The woman, Roshanie Singh Baboolall, daughter-in-law of Guyana’s first COVID-19 victim, Ratna Baboolall, took to Facebook to express her anger and frustration over the situation.
Roshanie explained that since her mother-in-law died, the entire family was taken to a quarantine facility and subjected to COVID-19 tests on March 16. Since then, the family has remained quarantined.
According to the woman, her 11-year-old daughter was subjected to five tests. On the first occasion, she stated that the result was positive; the second test result was positive while the third came back negative.
When contacted, the woman told Kaieteur News that her daughter was subjected to a fourth. According to her, the health workers returned to administer a fifth test after stating that they did not collect enough of sample on the last occasion to provide an accurate result.
That test was done on Tuesday last and on Thursday evening, they returned with a positive result.
Baboolall in a Facebook live stated that “…Tonight, they are coming to tell me that they made a mistake, that my daughter is positive…people, please tell me, isn’t this madness? She is inside of the room with us and they say that how she is negative and then they coming and tell us that she is positive. What really are these people doing with our lives?”
The sobbing woman relayed that the family continues to be quarantined at the facility for weeks on end with no indication as to when they will be allowed to go home.
“Don’t we have a life? This is real madness; we need help. I need help; my daughter is just 11 years old and she has been in quarantine for 40 days and over! Is nah easy, it is not easy at all! I don’t care if I am discriminated, I don’t have this virus and she does not have this virus, but they are saying she has it…we need answers,” the woman passionately appealed.
