Police are attempting to identify the culprits behind the torching of a butcher shop at Bushlot Village, West Coast Berbice.
Investigators revealed that the shop, which was owned by Latchmin Azeez, 51, and her husband, was deliberately set alight shortly after midnight yesterday.
Sources indicate that fires were set at two areas of the property.
Mrs. Azeez, who is a Community Development Officer, said that ranks on patrol alerted her at around 00:45 hrs that her business was on fire.
By the time the fire service arrived, the small structure had already been completely consumed by the flames.
Azeez explained that the butcher shop is operated by her husband, and that he also stored his equipment there.
Police confirmed that the owners had complained previously of individuals vandalizing the shop. The family is receiving assistance to rebuild the structure.
