DEAR EDITOR,
The Bishop does not have the spiritual authority as a partisan Politician to address the church on what she must do in these challenging times. He is not neutral and therefore his admonition lacks credibility.
Does the Bishop want the church to speak in favour of his party or against it? Does he want the church to speak against the government or in favour of it? Is speaking against GECOM or the Region 4 Returning Officer the new mandate of the church? Since when?
Is the church and it’s leadership going to follow man’s opinion instead of the holy scriptures and be dragged into politics and enter a terrain that is not part of her divine mandate? I beg to differ!
The Bishop should know that “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds”. II Corinthians 10:3-4 (NIV).
The Bishop should know that silence to him does not mean silence to God. Does he not know what the church is doing? All the diverse organizations he quoted are speaking out can never ever be compared to the Church of Jesus Christ and do not determine how the church must react at this time.
I think it is time to leave the Church alone to focus on its mandate, which is the salvation of lost souls and making disciples of Jesus Christ. We will give unto Caesar (the circular state) what is Caesar’s and unto the Lord what is the Lord’s.
We shall “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let our requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
Thank you!
Bishop Victor Collins Asabere
