Police in Berbice have scored a breakthrough into the murder of Rose Hall Town businessman Lomenzo Johnny, called “Sham”. There was reportedly a confession from one suspect which led to the arrest of three others
The hunt is on for a fifth. This was confirmed by Regional Commander Calvin Brutus yesterday.
Kaieteur News was also informed that a chest that was stolen from Johnny’s home and business was found along with cash. According to the Commander, a wanted bulletin is expected to be issued if the fifth suspect is not located by today.
Johnny’s lifeless and battered body was found bound in a farmland property owned by another Rose Hall Town businessman on February 28, last. It was two construction workers who ventured to the location to work on an unfinished house on the land that discovered the body.
The businessman was clad in gym pants and a vest. His sneakers and gym sweater were near his body, drenched in blood.
Police sources disclosed that based on information provided to them by a suspect they had arrested a few days ago, the three others were arrested. One of the suspects confessed that they had intended to rob Johnny but it was because he knew two of them that they decided to kill him.
After committing the act, they removed the keys to his building from his pockets and entered the building.
They ransacked the entire shop and upper flat before they grabbed a chest and some other items along with cash and escaped.
A post mortem examination done on the body revealed that he died from multiple injuries. He was laid to rest yesterday.
