Dian Prahalad grabbed her maiden five-wicket haul at this level to lead Berbice to a 10-wicket victory over Essequibo, while Demerara, led by a fine half century from Akaze Thompson and incisive spells from Haseena Mohamed and Kaysia Schultz, beat the Select U19 team by 242 runs when play in the Guyana Cricket Board Superbet Senior Female Inter County 50-over tournament continued yesterday.
Essequibo opted to bat at Enmore and were sent packing for 35 in 18 overs.
Varuni Pitamber and Shazana Majeed put on 18 for the opening stand before they both fell with the score on 18. Pitamber was run out for six, while Majeed was bowled by Prahalad for two.
Skipper Kumarie Persaud was caught off Plaffiana Millington for four before Khemwattie Tulshi fell lbw to Millington without scoring as Essequibo were reduced to 26-4.
Rhona James became Prahalad second victim when she was bowled for three, while Kerisa Christian was run out without scoring as Essequibo continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Prahalad and Millington then wrapped up the rest of the batting with Prahalad finishing with 5-7 from six overs and Millington 3-11 from six overs.
Berbice wasted little time in knocking off the total as they finished on 39 without loss in 5.1 overs. Katana Mentore struck two fours in an unbeaten 20, while Marina Samaroo made six. Prahalad was voted player of the match.
At Bourda, Demerara beat the Select U19 by 242 runs to set up an exciting finish to the competition today.
Demerara batted first and posted 326-6. Mandy Mangru and Lashuna Toussaint handed them a solid start as they added 104 for the first wicket before Mangru was caught off Naomi Barkoye for 43 which included six fours, while Toussaint was caught off Lisa Charles for 34.
Latoya Smith hit a run-a-ball 33, while Kavita Yadram was dismissed for three, however Akaze Thompson and Heema Singh frustrated their opponents with a fifth wicket stand of 105. Thompson struck five fours in a top score of 87 before she was run out while Singh remained not out on 36.
In reply, Lisa Charles and Vinita Balkishun put on 29 for the opening stand before the Select U19 lost Balkishun for two. Tilleye Madramootoo was run out for three, while Barkoye was lbw to Haseena Mohamed for seven as the Select U19 were restricted to 36-3.
Apart from Charles who stroked three fours in a top score of 23, no other batters managed double figures as Mohamed and Kaysia Schultz combined to bowl their team to victory, sharing eight wickets between them. The Select U19 fell for 84 in 26 overs.
Mohamed claimed 4-2 from two overs, while Schultz captured 4-26 from 10.
Thompson was named player of the match. The competition concludes today with Berbice facing Demerara at Bourda and The Select U19 playing Essequibo at Enmore.
