Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo met with Chairman of the Commonwealth observer team, former Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur, yesterday.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated the Coalition government’s commitment to free and fair elections.
Arthur was accompanied by Head of the Electoral Support Section, Martin Kasirye, and Advisor and Head of Good Offices for Peace and Advisor Caribbean, Tres-Ann Kremer.
After the meeting, Arthur noted that he and his team will be diligent in their observation of Guyana’s electoral process.
“I think Guyana is putting together everything to have elections within the law. We are here not to run the elections or determine the elections but to observe the elections.”
The Chairman noted that similar meetings were had with members of civil society and political systems.
Prime Minister Nagamootoo expressed his satisfaction following the meeting. He said that the Chairman was satisfied with the measures put in place for the hosting of elections on March 2, 2020.
“He will ensure that nothing unusual would take place in an election that will be credible, free and fair,” the Prime Minister noted.
General and Regional Elections are slated to be held in four days. As customary, several observer groups from across the globe are in Guyana to witness the county’s electoral process.
