Parika Salem Sports Club were crowned champions of the Young Guns Sports Club (YGSC) Republic Day seven-over cricket competition following a 49-run win over Golden Fleece in the final which was contested on Monday last at New Opportunity Corps ground, Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast.
Batting first, Parika Salem managed 89-4 with Kevon Boodie scoring 35 (5×4 2×6) sixes while Quintin Sampson made 20 (3×4 1×6) and Eknauth Persaud 20 (2×4). Tameshwar Sankar took 1-15. Golden Fleece were restricted for 40-5 in reply.
Shivnarine Harrilall struck five fours in scoring 27 not out; Hemchand Persaud and Jimol Marks took one wicket each. Earlier, Golden Fleece SC got the better of Scheme Warriors. Batting first, Scheme Warriors scored 73; Norman Fredericks made 32 (5×4) while Matthew Pellow scored 27.
Bowling for Golden Fleece, C. Drickpaul claimed 2-8. Golden Fleece replied with 74; Ray Parbattie made 19 not out; Raul Latchman captured 2-7. Parika Salem SC overcame Rising Stars by 39 runs. Parika Salem took first strike and posted 89 for 1.
Quintin Sampson hammered five sixes in a top score of 48 while Kemol Savory struck two fours and three sixes in scoring 27; Rising Stars made 50 in reply. D. Lakhan scored 20; A. Khan snared 3-20.
Parika Salem SC beat NOC XI in their encounter. Parika Salem posted 105, batting first. Kevin Boodie stroked six sixes in an unbeaten 51 while Keymol Savory made a brisk 49 not out (1×4 3×6). Akenie Adams had 1 for 21. NOC XI responded with 77 for 5; Shurland Anthony hit 32 (5×4 1×6) while Reyaad Mohamed contributed 19; Hemchand Persaud captured 2-7.
In another fixture, Rising Stars defeated Crown SC by 37 runs. Rising Stars scored 69 for 3, batting first. D. Lakan made 19. Crown SC responded with 32 for 6; O. Roberts had 2 for 6.
