The Guyana Prison Service Sentence Management Board also under the Social Protection Ministry has been appointed to serve for a period of one year, with effect from February 1, 2020 to January 31, 2021. Nine were appointed.
The Cabinet appointed boards previously, following its defeat in the National Assembly by a vote of No Confidence, and a consequential order by the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) that it is in a Caretaker status.
Former Attorney General and Opposition Member of Parliament, Anil Nandlall, had criticised these appointments, positing that it is an arrogant defiance of the Constitution and the Caribbean Court’s ruling.
