Shamar Yearwood struck a fine century to put host Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in a comfortable position against Bel Air Rubis at the close of play on the opening day of the Georgetown Cricket Association/Noble House Sea Foods Second Division two-day tournament which continued yesterday.
Yearwood struck 11 fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 108 and added 125 for the sixth wicket with Sachin Singh as DCC declared on 243-6 at stumps, in reply to Bel Air Rubis first innings score of 104 all out. Singh made 61 with three fours, while Alphius Bookie scored 39 as Mohamed Nassir and Shionarine Budhu took two wickets each. Earlier, Bel Air Rubis opted to bat and struggled against some steady bowling as they were reduced to 3-3. Budhu propped up the total somewhat with 28 not out, while C. Geenarine made 18, Floyd John and Aarvind Gainda 15 apiece. Daniel Mootoo grabbed 4-36, Qumar Torrington 4-39 and Kadeem Paris 2-34.
At Queen’s College, GNIC SC were 54-4 at stumps, in reply to Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) first innings total of 225. Premchand Sookdeo and Dexter Solomon are not out on 16 and 12 respectively; Jamall Major has so far taken two wickets while Marlon Boele and Bryion Bowen have one each.
Batting first, MYO lost some early wickets before Rishi Hiralall and Boele steadied the innings fairly; Hiralall was dismissed for 29 while Boele made 21. However,
skipper Khemraj Ramdeen was the mainstay of the innings as he slammed five fours in a top score of 53, while Visand Rampersaud contributed 24. Dwayne Dick and David Dick captured four wickets each.
At Malteenoes SC, Guyana Defence Force took first strike and were bowled out for 150 in 41.2 overs. Leon Andrews slammed 88 with seven fours and five sixes while Keith Simpson made 28 and Quacy Mc Pherson 19. Diquan Murray bowled with some pace to bag 4-50 while Akeem Critchlow had 3-30 and Dellon Dalrymple 2-17.
MSC closed on 110-3 with Jeremiah Scott on 22 and Shaquille Williams on 14. Shemroy Barrington struck six fours and one six before he was dismissed for 41 and Clarence Baird scored 26. Joshuna Jones has so far taken two wickets.
At Gandhi Youth Organisation, Georgetown Cricket Club batted first and managed 215 all out. Winston Forrester led with 53 which included 10 fours while Deonarine Seegobin made 49, Zachary Jodah 29 and Carlos La Rose 22. Trevon France bagged 5-45; Demeter Cameron had 2-52 and Divesh Ramjattan 2-64.
In reply, GYO were bowled out for 64. Yeudistir Persaud made 21 as Stephon Wilson claimed 4-22 and La Rose 2-22. Batting a second time, GYO closed on 61-1 with Jason Sinclair on 24 and Persaud on 17. Play continues today.
