Salmon grabs 7-56 on debut, Permaul captures 6-50
In a game in which 16 batsmen perished via the LBW route on a poor Providence track, Guyana Jaguars ended the penultimate day of the CWI Regional four-day fourth round game at Providence yesterday against Jamaica Scorpions needing 27 to win with their last pair at the crease.
Jamaica resumed on their overnight 50-3, fell for 184 leaving Guyana make 183 to win.
The 31-year-old Nkrumah Bonner hit five fours in a fighting 57; his 18th First-class fifty but only number 10 Jamie Merchant who struck 26 from 29 balls with five fours reached 20 as Jamaica were bowled out for 184.
The 30-year-old Permaul followed up his four-wicket haul in the first innings with 6-50; his 27th five-wicket haul at this level to finish with match figures of 10-85; his sixth 10-wicket haul at this level.
Left-arm seamer Raymon Reifer had 2-19 and off-spinner Kevin Sinclair 2-56.
Guyana ended the day on 155-9 with Anthony Bramble who smashed 32 from 31 balls with five fours and Permaul, unbeaten on 20 reached 20 on a difficult track to bat on with many balls keeping low. Debutant off-spinner Pete Salmon has 7-59 so far as 16 wickets tumbled yesterday.
When Jamaica resumed yesterday Fudadin was first to go for the second time in the game to Sinclair. Fudadin (19) was trapped LBW to one that skidded through and kept low at 73-4 before Paul Palmer (15) was bowled by Permaul six runs later.
Denis Smith (1) was LBW to Permaul at 81-6 before Bonner and Derval Green revived the position under blue skies with a 46-run stand before Permaul made the breakthrough by trapping Green LBW for 19 at 127-7.
Salmon was removed by Reifer for a duck at 131-8 before Bonner found a useful partner in Jamie Merchant and carried the score to 176-9 with a frustrating 45 runs for the ninth wicket before Reifer struck by dismissing Merchant, while Permaul had Patrick Harty LBW for duck to end a good day with the ball.
After losing Tagenarine Chanderpaul (12) LBW to Salmon at 16-1, Chanderpaul Hemraj and Skipper Leon Johnson carried the score to 48-1 by Lunch.
Hemraj (13) and Johnson, who seemed very unlucky to be given LBW to Merchant for 19, fell and Guyana had slipped to 49-3 and when Vishaul Singh was LBW to Salmon for a duck and Chris Barnwell was also LBW to Salmon for 12 the score was 62-5.
Bramble and Reifer took the score 106 before Reifer was bowled by the wily Salmon.
Bramble was soon LBW to left-arm spinner Patrick Harty at 119-7 before Sinclair was caught behind for 12 off Salmon at 130 before Salmon sent back Nial Smith, LBW for a duck without addition to the score.
