Yesterday at the Guyana Cricket Board office on regent Road the 2020 GCB/Dave West Indian Imports and Exports Under-15 Inter County Tournament was launched.
The tournament is scheduled to co
mmence on Sunday February 16 and will comprise Berbice, Demerara, Essequibo and a President’s X1 participating in the preliminary rounds in the format of One Day 50 Overs.
Saturday February 22 has been reserved for the final and is scheduled to be contested by the two teams acquiring the highest points at the end of the preliminary rounds.
The launch was witnessed by the GCB’s Territorial Development Officer Colin Stuart, who chaired the proceedings.
Stuart indicated that the GCB was once again pleased to be collaborating with Dave West Indian Imports and Exports in hosting the 2020 Inter County Under-15 Tournament.
He alluded to the fact, that, Dave West Indian’s sponsorship of the GCB Under-15 Inter County Tournament now spanned over 5 years and had significantly helped the GCB and its affiliate boards in developing and promoting national U-15 players.
Stuart said that while there are a number of considerations for selection, the GCB continues to use player performance in the GCB/Dave West Indian Under-15 Inter County Tournament, as the main criteria for selection to our U15 national team.
The keen contest exhibited between and amongst the players involved is a testimony to the competitive nature of the Inter County Tournament.
The Secretary of the GCB, Mr. Anand Sanasie was high in praise of Dave Narine and his company for continuing to support the GCB youth development initiative, in particular the GCB/Dave West Indian Imports and Exports Under-15 Inter County Tournament.
Sanasie made reference to the numerous products that are provided by Dave West Indian Imports and Exports and called on individuals in the Guyanese society to support the business venture.
Sanasie postulated, that the invaluable contribution of the sponsorship to youth development in cricket, citing exceptional performances over the years of Dave West Indian’s sponsorship by Guyana at the Under-15 level in the annual CWI Regional Under-15 Tournament.
Sanasie also made mention of the three Guyanese players, Mavendra Dindyal, Rampertab Ramnauth and Isai Thorne that represented the West Indies U-15 Team on the 2019 tour of England.
Dave Narine, the proud sponsor of the GCB/Dave West Indian expressed his elation with sponsoring the GCB Under-15 Inter County Tournament. He indicated that he has an unwavering interest for youth empowerment, and that he has always been keen on sponsoring the youths.
Narine said he was honoured to see youths of today becoming the stars of tomorrow and more so because through the Dave West Indian sponsorship, youth cricketers’ names are being transformed from the unknown, to being nationally, regionally and internationally recognized.
Narine also indicted, that he is proud that the Guyana Under-15 team continues to excel at the Regional level and commended the GCB for their outstanding work to cricket development and in so doing, expressed an interest in providing additional support to the GCB, even outside of the Under-15 age group intervention.
