An incisive spell from Ricky Sergent led Independence ‘A’ to a five-wicket victory over Sawpit Cricket Club when the West Demerara Cricket
Association/Beacon Café 50 over tournament continued recently at Joe Vieira Park.
Sergent proved unplayable, grabbing six wickets for nine runs off seven overs as Sawpit Cricket Club were bowled out for 50 in 16 overs, batting first. Ram Ramnarine was the only batsman to reach double figures with 17 while Reaz Esau picked up two for 18 from four overs to support Sergent.
Independence ‘A’ lost some early wickets in the chase but Safraz Esau batted with composure to see his team to 55-5 in nine overs. Esau struck an unbeaten 42 while Imran Khan claimed 3-22 off four overs and Ramnarine 2-20.
The competition will continue on Sunday with Independence ‘B’ facing Wales at Joe Vieira Park (I. Eatwroo and Nandkumar Shivsankar) and Windsor Forest ‘A’ playing All Youths ‘B’ at Malvern ground (M. Ernest and A .Singh).
