Former President Donald Ramotar has admitted that any track record that principal of Mid Atlantic Oil, Kamal Edris Dookie, might have had in oil discovery was limited to exploration conducted by CGX. But he was quick to point out that CGX had no history of successful drilling.
He was responding to questions posed by Attorney at Law Nigel Hughes during a hearing of his libel suit against Kaieteur News, its publisher Glenn Lall, and its Editor-in-Chief, Adam Harris.
Mr Ramotar took to the witness stand on Monday as the hearing began before Justice Navindra Singh in the High Court.
Questioned on the allocation of the oil blocks, the issue that led to the suit, Mr Ramotar stated that he had allocated the licences after he had announced a date for the 2015 elections. He also told the court that he allocated exploratory licences for 10 of the 11 offshore blocks. The one that was not allocated was in ultra deep water.
He further testified that this was not discussed in cabinet.
The mater will continue on February 7, next.
