DEAR EDITOR,
Has anyone ever seen a Politician with a firearm, or cutlass or other dangerous implement in Guyana’s Parliament threatening to hurt or hurting his/her opposite number?
Have you ever seen any of the above when Politicians socialize at the embassies or other high level functions?
Do those Politicians who are lawyers beat each other up in Court? No! They call each other “My learned colleague” and other respectful nomenclatures.
CAN GUYANESE THEN EDIFY ME WHY WE, AS THEIR FOLLOWERS, GET ALL NASTY TO EACH OTHER AT TIME OF ELECTIONS?
Our Politicians work us into a frenzy and we go at each other’s throat. They feed us all gimmicks and we go wild, ready to tear apart the supporter of the other party. We want to break their cars and burn their properties.
FOR WHAT or FOR WHOM?
Every day we see and read expressions unbefitting of civilized people. Are we civilized?
Politicians have mastered the skill to turn brother against brother, friend against friend, village against village. They encourage the ordinary man to break the law so that they, the Politicians, can accede to power.
Where is their mastery at uniting us rather than dividing us?
Have we ever considered how many promises they have made to us over the past 70 years? If 25% of those promises were delivered, Guyana would not have been in the economic and social morass it is in today. It is easy and cheap for political hopefuls and seasoned campaigners to jump on a soap box and dish out promises. How much have they delivered? Yet we are ready to kill each other over what is dished out!
Fellow Guyanese, wake up! Most Politicians have their own agendas. They go in power as ordinary, poor individuals and many become rich overnight. How?
They will rap at our doors for days to ask for our votes. But when they get into office they give us a false smile but no access to their ivory towers.
Each Voter has a right to vote for whom he/she prefers. Let us not fight each other over that right. To do so can only make us un-civil and backward.
This Nation needs us all more than it needs Politicians. We only need Politicians who respect our concerns over and above theirs. They promise to serve us, and not to set us apart and have us fight each other. Let them do so! Let us hold their feet to the fire!
FELLOW GUYANESE, WAKE UP!
