Sankar to captain GT in Inter-Association 50-over U-15 Cricket
Off-spinner Stephon Sankar will lead the Georgetown U-15 side with Romeo Deonarain as his deputy in the Demerara Inter-Association 50-over U-15
Cricket tournament, which starts on Monday, with the City side facing West Demerara at Everest and East Bank playing East Coast at Lusignan.
The team was selected after yesterday’s second and final 50-over U-15 cricket Trial match in which Romeo Deonarain’s XI beat Riyad Latif’s XI by three wickets at Bourda.
After a slight shower which caused an early lunch to be taken and the overs reduced to 47 per side, Latif’s XI fell for 100 with the Skipper unbeaten on 30 with three boundaries. Kashan Singh made 11 but the next best score was four from the left-handed Gabriel Rookum who made 78 in the first Trial game on Monday.
Medium pacer John Persaud had 4-34 for Deonarain’s XI who responded with 101-7 with Wavell Allen making and unbeaten 32, Deonarain made 16 and Premkumar Permaul scoring 10. Rookum had 2-7 in a losing cause.
In the second round, on Wednesday February 5, East Coast Demerara oppose Georgetown at Lusignan and West Demerara battle East Bank Demerara at Everest.
The third and final round is scheduled for Friday February 7 when East Bank Demerara clash with Georgetown at Everest and East Coast Demerara face-off with West Demerara at Lusignan
