At the John Thomas Terrier Invitational last Friday, U.S. based Guyanese student-athlete, Joanna Archer, a freshman at Monroe College in New York,
took the national lead in the 800m with an indoor best of 2:11.85, then doubled back about an hour later with a lifetime best of 55.94 in the 400m to grab nation-leading honours in that event as well. The 800 mark makes her No. 9 on the all-time JUCO list.
Two weeks ago, Archer clocked 1:14.21 in the 500 meters which converts to a 1:33.51 for 600m – also the fastest in the nation.
She is the third female athlete from Monroe-New Rochelle to be named National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season – and the first since 2017.
