DEAR EDITOR,
In the middle of December 2019, two barrels I had shipped to Guyana through Laparkan in New York arrived at the GNIC Wharf in Georgetown. Around December 20th, I uplifted the barrels, only to discover that both had been opened and several items stolen from them.
I suppose a “chemical spill” at the facility provided the ideal cover for thieves to pilfer what they and their co-workers needed for the holidays. This does not augur well for the reputation of Laparkan as a shipping company, GNIC as a major wharfing port, and the Customs Department, which is responsible for clearing goods that are shipped into the country.
Maybe strategically placed and working surveillance cameras could prove effective in curbing such criminal activities at the wharf.
