DEAR EDITOR,
One cannot miss that over the past months/years Kaieteur News has been at the forefront of highlighting the wrongs of the oil contract. It appears as if we may end up owing Exxon for that oil, given that we are already in debt by 10 Billion, plus we have to pay all the operating cost and taxes.
The majority of the population is certainly grateful for the exposure. However, many of us believe the initial negotiation of the contract was linked to the government in 2015 (that is, who offered the better deal got to govern) and similarly, any calls for renegotiation will invariably affect that party’s chances of forming the next government in 2020, hence the reluctance from the two main parties to re-negotiate.
Anyway, my email is to highlight that even though you publish all these stories day after day, none of it is permanently posted on your website. Instead, you have permanent stories of Jagdeo, Sattaur and Robert Persaud on your front page.
It must be noted that those stories, while important, pale in comparison to the losses Guyanese will experience with the Exxon contract. Yet, you do not have one story about the quartet+1 trip to Texas, the one-sided deals, the huge debt we incurred before oil was pumped, etc.
Your online presence certainly does reflect the attention or priority you place in your dailies.
Sincerely,
Avid Kaieteur News Reader
