A spirited bowling performance, led by Mahendra Hardyal and a 74-run opening stand between Unnis Yusuf and Mahase Chunilall led Regal Masters to a nine-wicket victory over Ariel Masters when the teams collided in the final of the Trophy Stall T20 softball competition on Sunday.
Batting first, Ariel Masters lost R. Kumar (01), bowled by Tyrone Sanasie, and Samuel Kingston (08) caught off Hardyal to be reduced to 12-2 at the Ogle Community Centre ground.
Harydal picked up two more quick wickets, including that of Shaheed Gittens for 17, which included one four and a six to further peg back the Ariel Masters’ innings.
However, P. Gosiah propped up the total with a top score of 33, which came off 44 balls and included two fours and a similar number of sixes, before he was run out.
Sanasie, Khalid Haslim and Roy Persaud polished off the rest of the batting as Ariel Masters were bowled out for 102 in 20 overs. Hardyal finished with 3-33; Persaud took 2-17, Sanasie 2-24 and Haslim 1-13.
Openers Yusuf and Chunilall put Regal Masters on course with determined batting. Yusuf was aggressive from the onset, striking three fours and four sixes before he was removed by Kingston for 41 off 20 balls. Chunilall remained unbeaten on 40 off 34 balls with one four and three sixes, while, Eon Abel made seven not out as Regal Masters finished on 103-1 in 10.4 overs. Kingston had 1-21. Yusuf was named man-of-the-match.
Earlier, Khalid Haslim bagged five wickets and Yusuf slammed an unbeaten half century to guide Regal Masters to a 10-wicket win over Success Masters. Haslim finished with 5-7, his maiden five-wicket haul in the Masters category as Success Masters were limited to 84-9, taking first strike. Hackim Majeed made 23 with two fours and two sixes, while Seekumar Budram scored 16 and Rafman Ali 11. Regal Masters responded with 86 without loss in 8.3 overs. Yusuf struck two fours and six sixes in a top score of 51 off 27 balls, while Chunilall made 29 not out with one four and three sixes off 20 balls.
Ariel Masters overcame Fisherman Masters by six runs. Ariel Masters took first turn in the middle and scored 146-7. Mark Fung led with 51, while P. Gosiah made 30. Stanley Mohabir grabbed 4-30.
Fisherman Masters managed 140-9 in reply. Mohabir made 33; Alex Singh took 2-16.
