Guyana, Jamaica business chambers seek partnership

With the aim of strengthening bilateral trade between the two states, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) in collaboration with the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) have planned to facilitate an incoming trade delegation of 10 Jamaican countries.
According to a release from GCCI, the various countries are involved in numerous sectors including information communications technology (ICT), financial services, business support services, manufacturing, real estate development and distribution.
The trade mission program is expected to include meetings with other local public and private sector representatives including those from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest) and the Centre for Local Business Development (CLBD).
According to the release, in an effort to identify future partnership, a major highlight of the agenda entails matchmaking sessions, aimed at enabling one-on-one conversations between the participating companies and potential local partners.
Further, GCCI states that it views this collaborative effort between the two countries as a “key advancement in the commercial relationship between Jamaica and Guyana.”
The release pointed out that through this engagement, the GCCI and the JCC hope to foster collaborative business relationships and encourage, promote, and facilitate trade and investment between the two countries. The trade mission also allows the GCCI to advocate for Guyana as a destination for future Jamaican investments.
The trade mission is scheduled to take place from January 26th–January 31st, 2020 at the Pegasus Hotel, Georgetown, Guyana.
Earlier in 2019, GCCI had embarked on a similar venture with the Barbados business chamber which entailed a formalized Memorandum of Understanding to improve trade relations between the two CARICOM sister nations.
