One person is presently in police custody assisting investigators with a probe into an alleged robbery that took place at Cumberland Village, East
Canje, Berbice.
Kaieteur News was informed that a lone perpetrator armed with a knife confronted an employee of a pharmacy in Canje as he was making his way out the building. It was during the confrontation that the man was stabbed.
Ashraf “Bai” Ally, also of Cumberland Village, is nursing a stab wound to the abdomen at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
CCTV footage showed the perpetrator was standing not too far from the business premises and waited until the employee walked out from the building, before he pounced on him.
Ally was making his way to tend to his stall at the New Amsterdam Market. He had on him a bag containing approximately three hundred thousand dollars in cash which the perpetrator stole after he stabbed him. The assailant managed to escape. Police are investigating.
