Massive transformation has taken place in Angoy’s Avenue, (which was once known as Cow Dam) and was once considered the most depressed community in New Amsterdam, Berbice. This transformation has taken place over the past four years and they can expect even more in the near future.
Angoy’s Avenue has moved from one of the most depressed communities to one of the most thriving. Those were words of Minister of Education Nicolette Henry during an engagement at Patrick Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Minister Henry, a native of New Amsterdam, reminded those gathered that Angoy’s Avenue was once without basic amenities now boasts asphaltic roads, an ICT hub, potable water, electricity and street lights among others.
She added that in early 2019, over 1000 residents were granted titles for lands which they were occupying since the 1970s.
Minister Henry noted that these developments were all achieved under the Coalition in little less than four years.
“What we have done in our first four years is unmatched. “Let me tell you, the road that you are standing on never happened before under the last administration; your land titles, water, electricity, ICT Hub and the hot meals programme for your children in schools, these things are real and we know what it means to put the people first,” she stated.
The Education Minister called on the residents to look at the examination results from the past four years. Guyana topped the CSEC (CXC) in 2019.
“… We have brought about changes in the lives of thousands of young people as we take them to the next step using technology. I know you have heard of the smart classrooms, ICT Hubs in many of our schools and technology-enabled learning.
“We will continue under the APNU+AFC government; a government that has introduced the youth innovation programme, the youth corps and we are committed to ensuring that no eligible Guyanese will ever again have to pay to attend the University of Guyana.”
Minister Henry emphasised that given the trajectory seen over the past few years, residents can expect more developments for their community and its environs.
