Defending champions, Rose Hall Town Bakewell will clash with Rose Hall Canje in the remaining semifinal of the Berbice Cricket Board/Ramnaresh Sarwan Under-17 tournament; the first match was rained out.
RHT Bakewell defeated arch rivals Tucber Park Cricket Club by five wickets in their quarterfinal while Albion trounced Port Mourant by eight wickets to advance to the final.
At the Area ‘H’ Ground, the visiting Tucber Park won the toss and elected to bat after a delay of one hour due to early morning rain.
Tucber Park were bowled out for 74 off 36.4 overs. National U15 batsman Zeynul Ramsammy 14 and Savishkar Sobhai 14 were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Off spinners Ricardo Ramdehol 4 for 13 from 9 overs and Jonathan Rampersaud 3 for 19 from 10 overs were the main wicket takers for the home team.
RHT Bakewell reached 80 for 5 from 16.3overs. Rampersaud completed a fine all-round performance with 25 while Lucas Arthur was unbeaten on 13. Abdul Ramsammy took 3 for 17 from eight impressive overs for Tucber Park.
Albion defeated Blairmont and Port Mourant by 18 runs and 8 wickets respectively in their quarter and semifinal matches to book their place in the final. Albion were restricted to 134 by Blairmont in 46.2 overs, Leon Cecil 18 and Hemendra Gurdyal 14, reaching double figures.
Akash Harilall 3 for 19 and Anthony Sukhra 2 for 10 were Blairmont’s best bowlers. The visitors in reply collapsed from 86 for 4 to116 all out in 42 overs; national player Marvon Prashad 55, Satyah France 19 and Anthony Sukhra 13 led the batting. Pavendra Ganesh took 3 for 12.
And Port Mourant were shot out for 82 with 29 extras in 40 overs. Salim Khan and Andy Downer each scored 17 as Inzam Shazam claimed 4 for 20. Albion raced to 84 for 2 from 13 overs; Hemendra Gurdyal scored 28 and Naresh Veersammy 18.
The BCB is aiming to complete the tournament by the end of this month in order for this year’s edition to bowl off by mid February.
