Nurses attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) Psychiatric ward will now be undergoing continuous training to ensure they are always prepared to deal with all patients.
This is according to a top official working at the medical facility. The training process is scheduled to begin Monday.
The psychiatric ward is considered the most challenging unit in which to work. It was noted that staffers working there always have to be constantly on the alert.
The official explained that staffers would sometimes feel pressured when dealing with mentally ill patients.
The official also revealed that the training will be conducted by senior officials of the psychiatric unit. The training will be done for five days every four months.
The Psychiatric Clinic, a unit at the GPHC for several years, offers services both on an in-patient and out-patient basis. The unit is specialized in treating patients according to their level of diagnosis.
Currently the unit houses over 400 patients, also there are persons that use the services offered at the facility on a daily basis.
