Detectives yesterday took the police constable and his alleged gang members back to the scene of Friday’s botched robbery at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo yesterday.
Sources close to the investigations revealed that they had arrested a female suspected to be the missing gang member who abandoned her crew after a licensed firearm holder infringed on their robbery attempt.
However, the source stated that the woman had a solid alibi for her whereabouts at the time of the robbery. While her name is said to be similar to the female who assisted in the robbery, their appearances differ, and she is likely to be released.
Those detained are 24-year-old Police Constable, Jonathan Harry, of Lot 124 East Ruimveldt; Shaquille Wilbury, of Buxton, East Coast Demerara and 20-year-old Akande Ross of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara. Their accomplice, Mark Prince was shot dead by a resident who went to the aid of the victims.
The gang had gone to the Five-Star Chinese Restaurant, located at Lot 695 Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo. Two were armed with cutlasses and one with a handgun.
The owner of the business, 43-year-old Guang Hong Wang, her husband and a customer; 37-year-old Navindra Lakahalall were in the restaurant at the time when one of the suspects entered with a woman and purchased two beers.
The duo, after consuming the beers, called for a case of beers. When the owner was delivering the case, the male suspect pulled out a gun and proceeded to rob her. The bandits relieved Lakahalall of a chain and a sum of cash.
But their plans were cut short after a licensed firearm holder who lives nearby heard the commotion, grabbed his firearm and investigated. He disclosed that he heard strange voices and called for the owner.
One of the bandits then pointed the gun at the resident. The man opened fire, fatally shooting Mark Prince. The gang then fled.
After exiting, the resident was told by a neighbour that the bandits had escaped in a Black Bluebird PTT 8606, which reportedly belongs to a woman who resides at Coldingen, East Coast Demerara. They had left their wounded accomplice, Mark Prince, at the scene.
The resident then followed the robbers in his car to Den Amstel, where police apprehended the suspects at a roadblock.
An unlicensed pistol with an empty magazine was found in the vehicle and a sum of cash and cellular phones were found on the persons of the suspects.
Police found Mark Prince dead at the scene. He was reportedly still clutching a cutlass in his right hand. He also had a haversack containing $130,000.
Reports stated that Harry identified himself as a police rank when he was taken to the station. He was supposed to be on duty but reportedly called in sick.
