The decomposed body of 82-year-old Evan Williams was found in her one bedroom apartment at lot 1414 Norton Street, Wortmanville, yesterday afternoon.
The discovery was made by a neighbour and friend of Williams, who had not seen the pensioner since last Thursday.
The neighbour said that Williams, who was blind, would normally be seen every day in front of her apartment, while begging for food.
But on Thursday, Williams had an argument with one of her neighbours and entered her house.
Neighbours became worried on Saturday after they noticed that she had apparently not left her apartment for two days.
They then enquired about Williams’ whereabouts from her sisters who lived next door. The sisters claimed that they had repeatedly banged on Williams’ door but got no response.
However, yesterday afternoon the friend decided to check for herself.
A tenant who lived in the upper flat of the apartment building alerted the friend of a stench emanating from William’s apartment.
The friend was then advised to force open one of the windows and “peep” inside. What she saw was the William’s partially swollen body lying on the floor.
She immediately alerted neigbours and made a call to the police who arrived shortly after.
Investigators were unable to determine the possible cause of death because of the corpse’s decomposed state.
The body was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary.
