Watched by a fair sized crowd on a dazzling New Year’s night, Top Shattas FC did not disappoint their Fitzburg fans as they defeated Young Gunnerz FC 3-0 to claim the inaugural Three Brothers Futsal Tournament held at Fitzburg Recreational Ground, Port Kaituma.
Both teams went goalless at half time, but upon resuming the bruising battle, Top Shattas leading goal scorer Sisco Robinson continued his dominance as he buried his fourth goal and first in the final, while his team mate Ronaldo Abrams supported with a brace to extend their team’s advantage. Despite several efforts by Young Gunnerz, Top Shattas defence stood firm to ensure their team prevailed.
Top Shattas goalkeeper Shemar Jardan was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in the final as he made two astonishing saves and was duly rewarded with a hamper with the compliments of Mr. Clarence Hinds of Mabaruma, while his team received a cash prize for their efforts.
Earlier, Top Shattas defeated Oronoque 3-1, while PKSS Young Gunnerz humbled Platinum FC 2-0 to qualify for the final.
The competition was well supported by Port Kaituma Football Foundation Trio of Ronaldo Rodrigues, Glenroy Hercules and Sherlon Rodrigues, and they have expressed gratitude to Platinum General Store, Three Brothers Sports bar and Barber Shop, Roshan Rampersaud, Mr. Clarence Hinds of Mabaruma, Mr. Brion Thomas, Mr. Shawn James among others for their unwavering support of sports development in the Matarkai Sub-region.
