Police are hunting for two men who reportedly escaped on foot leaving their motorcycle behind after discharging a firearm along James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.
The incident occurred Wednesday around 02:30hrs.
According to reports, several police ranks were on mobile patrol in the Albouystown community when they observed a black and red motorcycle CH9581 proceeding ahead of them.
Kaieteur News understands that the pillion rider reportedly withdrew a firearm from the waist of his pants and discharged a round in the air. As a result, the ranks gave chase. However after realising that the police van was closing in on them the driver stopped the motorcycle.
According to source, after the rider stopped the motorcycle the pillion rider made good his escape in a southern direction through an alley leading to Punt Trench while the rider escaped in the opposite direction.
When ranks approached the motorcycle which was left behind, they found a silver coloured .45 Taurus pistol with four live .45 rounds of ammunition. The firearm was examined and it was observed that the serial number was filed off.
The firearm and ammunition along with the motorcycle were taken to the Brickdam Police Station where they were all lodged pending further investigations.
The matter is being investigated.
