A fight between four males over a 14-year-old girl has left one remanded to the juvenile holding center, one in hiding, one hospitalized and one dead.
Remanded was 17-year-old boy who was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on December 24, 2019, at Four Miles Port Kaituma, North West District, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Keon Hutson with intent to maim disable, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm.
According to information, on Christmas Eve, around 22:00hrs the defendant was at a popular shop in Port Kaituma having a private conversation with a young lady, when Hutson and his friend, Neville Moonsammy, intervened.
It was then Hutson inquired as to why the 17-year-old was talking to his girlfriend. Hutson picked up a piece of wood and dealt the defendant several lashes to his body.
The defendant ran away, contacted his friend who was some distance away, and caused the friend to arm himself with a cutlass and they then went back to the shop where Hutson was standing with Moonsammy.
An argument ensued between the four men. It then escalated into a fight during which the 17-year-old stabbed Huston to his face several times with a broken bottle. The defendant’s friend then stabbed Moonsammy multiple times about his face, neck and body.
Hutson and Moonsammy later managed to escape from their attackers, but they soon collapsed a short distance away. The defendant and his friend made good their escape.
The two injured men were rushed to the Port Kaituma Hospital, where Moonsammy was pronounced dead on arrival; Hutson was admitted in a critical state and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
The matter was reported and the police acting on information went to the home of the 17-year-old defendant and apprehended him in the presence of his parents.
The defendant was then taken to the Port Kaituma Police Station for questioning in relation to the murder of Moonsammy and the stabbing of Hutson.
According to reports the teen denied stabbing Moonsammy, but reportedly admitted to stabbing Moonsammy’s friend, Keon Hutson.
