Two of Guyana’s most vibrant and dynamic organisations, the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) and the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC), MS on Sunday last, launched the first ever youth cricketer educational booklet in Guyana.
The 40 pages booklet which was sponsored by the Non-Alcoholic Brand of Ansa Mcal and 10 cricket teams of the RHTYSC, MS is one of the main achievements of the pro-active BCB for 2019.
President of the BCB Hilbert Foster stated that the publication of the historic booklet was a red-letter day for the board. Foster who co-author the booklet with Public Relations Officer Simon Naidu, stated its main objectives was to educate youths on their role as role model/ambassador of Berbice, facts on Guyana and the numerous social ills that would affect them in life.
Among the topics covered in the booklet are Suicide, Teenage Pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, Importance of Discipline, Importance of Religion, Importance of Education, Public Speaking, How to handle on the job Interview, Manners in the classroom, respect for the elderly, Personal Hygiene and Appearance, how to behave during a public ceremony, table manners, importance of reading, general store etiquette and the sportsman as an ambassador.
It also includes facts about Guyana, Facts you should know about your country, Facts about Berbice Cricket, the National Pledge, the National Anthem, Do’s and Don’ts on Facebook also included in the booklet are messages from Foster in his capacity as BCB President/RHTYSC/ CEO and Errol Nelson, Business Unit Head of Ansa Mcal Non-Alcoholic Beverage Division.
The very informative booklet also includes diagram of fielding positions, ways of dismissals in cricket, umpires’ signals, and photographs of Berbicians who played test cricket among other cricket related articles.
The BCB President stated that every youth player in Berbice would receive a copy as the board strives to make every one of them educated about the game.
The BCB President disclosed that his board was open to assisting clubs from out of Berbice with a copy of the historic booklet, if they request same.
The BCB and RHTYSC would like to express gratitude to Mr. Eroll Nelson of Ansa Mcal for his cooperation in making the project possible. The ten teams of the RHTYSC, MS involved in the project were Poonai Pharmacy U 13, Farfan and Mendes U 15, Bakewell U17 and Second Division, Pepsi U 19 and Intermediate, Metro Female, Namilco Thunderbolt Flour U-21 and First Division.
