Fifty-year-old miner, Joao Dsosristinto is now over $1M poorer after a scary confrontation Friday evening with two cutlass-wielding robbers.
The incident allegedly occurred at around 23:30 hrs at Takatu Backdam, Cayuni River.
The miner of Lot 2466 Block 8 Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo was asleep at his mining camp, Takutu Backdam, Puruni Road along with his cook and another worker when the robbers attacked.
Dsosristinto stated that the men, both brandishing cutlasses, instructed him “not to scream” and then proceeded to tie his hands and feet.
“They tie me up and search up the camp…they had on dark clothes and they face tie up so I couldn’t see.”
The men then grabbed up $850,000, 14 pennyweights of raw good valued, $186,000, a Samsung S7 cell phone value $50,000, a Samsung cellular phone valued $15,000, and four bottles of Kaiak perfume value $58,000 before escaping.
But next day, police ranks from the area, acting on information, ventured to the Bartica Ferry Stelling and arrested two suspects in a Parika bound vessel.
They were escorted to Bartica Police Station where a search was conducted and the items and cash to the tune of GYD$400,000 were recovered. The men later confessed to robbing the miner.
