… Tomorrow Boxing Night double on at MSC
After losing their two previous games Botafago, who came into this tournament as the number two seed behind Net Rockers, won their third match in 5-1 hammering of Aroaima but the top ranked Net Rockers could only gain a 3-3 draw against Silver Shattas as they both made their exit from this
year’s Christmas championship being staged by the Upper Demerara Football Association at the Mackenzie Sports Cub ground, Linden.
In fact, Group C will see two teams advancing from the four contesting and that is why Botafago’s win gives them a chance of reaching the quarterfinals.
Net Rockers, however, playing in Group A were up against it among the three teams as Coomacka beat both Rockers and Silver Shattas earlier to secure that lone spot in the semifinals.
Playing on Monday night, doubles off the boots of Shane Haynes and Andre Gill allowed them that polished win. Haynes got his goals in the 11th and 75th minutes and Gill in the 25th and 73rd minutes of play with Jashawn Moore getting the other for Botafago in the 79th minute.
The goal for Aroaima was scored by Lyndon Benjamin in the 55th minute.
The Shattas and Rockers game was of academic interest as Coomacka had already qualified from Group A and the result was a 3-3 stalemate.
For Rockers the scorers were Omeion Wills, Shane Luckie and Baggey Rose. Netting the goals for Silver Shattas were George Stephens, Damion Williams and Jomain Samuels.
In other games played recently Capital FC had their 2-1 win against Hi Stars overturned for playing an ineligible player.
And that same evening Topp XX secured an easy 2-0 victory against Aroaima behind goals from, Travis Grant in the 77th minute and Carlos Grant in the 82nd minute.
Tomorrow night, Boxing night, the tournament continues with two more matches when from 19.00hrs it will be Amelia’s Ward Panthers against Topp XX and the second from 21.00hrs Haynes and Lewis Winners Connection face Capital FC.
