Almost two months after he went into hiding after reportedly threatening to kill his former lover, police ranks in Essequibo, working on information, arrested the wanted man. He was caught hiding among water coconuts in the tray of a Canter truck on his way to the Pomeroon (Region Two).
Police has identified the suspect as 32-year-old Stravo Evans of James Street, Albouystown.
According to reports, Evans who is no stranger to the law, was once again identified as a person of interest after a nursery school teacher lodged a report at a police station accusing him of threatening to kill her.
Kaieteur News understands that a wanted bulletin was issued for the arrest of the man since July 2018 after he was sentenced to four years in prison in absentia.
At Farm, East Bank Demerara, he was charged for possession of a .32 pistol and ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence. That matter was conducted and he was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment and fined $75,000.
According to sources, on October 18, 2019, mother of six and nursery school teacher, Michelle Nieuenkerk, reported that Mr. Evans was threatening to kill her after she reportedly broke off a two-year long relationship she had with the suspect.
At the time, Evans was working as a taxi driver operating in the vicinity of Stabroek Market, Georgetown.
In an interview, Nieuenkerk stated that she broke off the relationship with Evans on July 19, 2019 because of the abuse she was subjected to at the hands of the suspect. Nevertheless, he refused to stay away from her.
When contacted, a police source told Kaieteur News that the man, is expected to appear in court very soon. He will also have to complete the four years jail sentence he evaded.
