A sixteen-year-old student of Bina Hill Secondary School was killed in an accident on Thursday morning on the Rupununi access road, Region seven. Dead is Danillo Allicock of Surama Village, North Rupununi.
From reports received, the now dead teen and a pillion rider were on a motorcycle proceeding east along the southern side of the roadway, allegedly at a fast rate, and a car was also on the same side proceeding in the opposite direction.
Police disclosed that Allicock took evasive action to avoid a head-on collision, but failed in that attempt. Both men on the motorcycle fell on the roadway and sustained injures.
According to Divisional Commander Superintendent Keithon King, the pillion rider then picked up the motorcycle and fled the scene, leaving Allicock lying motionless on the road.
A passerby who discovered the unconscious teen hours later, alerted the Annai Police Station and an ambulance was called. Allicock was then rushed to the Lethem Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Commander King told Kaieteur News that police checks were made at the Secondary school for the missing pillion rider and the motorcycle but both have vanished.
Investigations are ongoing.
