The suspect, who was a few days ago held for the murder of a 47-year-old boat captain, was yesterday brought out from the interior and placed before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where the charge was read to him.
He was remanded to prison until February 18, 2020 for his next court date at the Mabaruma Magistrate Court.
It was reported that the victim of Hobediah, North West District (NWD), was beaten to death on Saturday night last. Police said that James’ reputed wife left their home with their three year old child and headed to Kumaka, North West District, to collect a phone charger.
Upon returning home, she saw her spouse near a shop, which was closed at the time.
James and his reputed wife were sitting on the boat landing, when they heard the owner of the premises cursing. The owner of the premises allegedly came out and threw a beer bottle at the couple and their child.
An argument ensued and as the couple was leaving the area, the suspect reportedly pushed James. This escalated into another row and the assailant allegedly struck James with a piece of wood.
The attacker then fled the scene while residents took James to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
