The University of Guyana wishes to contextualize and give the full facts relating to an incomplete reference made by one Cheryl Noel in a letter published in the Chronicle paper titled “The Simmering Resentment Between Guyanese Who Stayed in the Diaspora Must End”.
We would be grateful if the public can be fully appraised of the full context and content of a 2 hour conversation which was live streamed on October 30 in which 5 panelist were discussing the matter of diaspora relations in perfect English. The 3 second snippet chosen out of context by the letter writer, spoken by Prof Mohamed, in the jocular language of informality in Guyana is questionable at best and in fact represents the opposite of Prof. Mohamed’s views on the matter. Most importantly it seeks to defame one of our most decorated literary academics and brings Prof Mohamed and the University of Guyana into international disrepute. This the University cannot allow. While Ms. Noel is entitled to her own opinions. She is legally liable for misrepresentations of others. It is also unfortunate that she has so undermined the important work of the Women of Queens College whose effort this conversation was.
Please therefore, share with the public the full url to the unedited videos for their factual grounding on the matter. https://www.facebook.com/UGPACEAlumni/videos/454679041838418/
Yours Sincerely,
The University of Guyana’ Office of The DVC and Chair TMC
