DEAR EDITOR,
Contrary to the intensive criticism that has been levelled at a government minister over his admission of government’s lapses in the handling of the oil agreements, I would like to commend Mr. Raphael Trotman’s on this acknowledgement.
This humble statement of failure to address what is a new area in our economy must demonstrate a sincere need to do what is best for the country in the long run.
All too often we learn of mistakes by politicians which have led to burdens that have to be borne by our people, and this is usually compounded by them stubbornly holding on to these lapses, sometimes just to save face, to the detriment to further progress.
We humans are always subject to error, and it must be seen as only right to act according to the dictates of our conscience, admit these errors of judgement, search for solutions, and move on. This is so much more important for political leaders whose actions impact on our welfare in tremendous ways.
I hope that this occasion serves as a guide to the way all Guyanese behave in all areas of our lives
Yours sincerely,
Roy Paul
