A midwife, Darcia Bissoon, a 36-year-old woman from Bartica is battling for her life after she was struck down by a motorcar, whilst crossing the Queenstown Public road yesterday morning.
According to reports, at the time of the incident, the woman was making her way to a doctor who was on the opposite end of the road.
As Bissoon made way to her to her colleague, she was struck down by a speeding taxi, which was heading south along the Essequibo Coast road.
The woman was picked up and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital in a disoriented state, before being air dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital some two hours later.
Reports reaching Kaieteur News indicated that the woman may have suffered injuries to the head, since her face was badly swollen.
Kaieteur News understands that the woman has been in the region for the past four years, and has been serving at the Suddie Health Centre during that time.
The driver is in police custody assisting with investigations.
